Tuna Tataki is a great way to start off a meal and this salad version is an easy way to impress your guests at the start of your next sushi party. It also makes for a nice and light weeknight dinner, so maybe just go ahead and try impressing yourself first. You know you’ve earned it!
Ahi Tuna Tataki
Serves 2-4
Ingredients:
- 2 4-6oz, #1 ahi tuna steaks
- 12 oz mixed greens
- Daikon radish sprouts
- Toasted Sesame Seeds
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 Tablespoon sesame oil
- 1/2 cup Tamari (or soy sauce)
- 1/2 cup of rice wine vinegar
- 1 teaspoon of mirin
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- 1 tablespoon minced ginger
- ginger miso dressing
- Ginger Miso Dressing
- ½ cup miso paste
- ¼ cup water
- ¼ cup sushi vinegar
- 1 tbsp fresh grated ginger
- 2 tbsp sesame oil
- 1 tbsp sugar
Directions:
- In a large saute pan over medium high heat, add in vegetable oil and sesame oil and heat until just starting to smoke.
- Add the tuna steaks and sear on all sides and edges (approximately 30 seconds – 1 minute per side).
- Add the tamari, rice wine vinegar, mirin, garlic, and ginger and reduce until the sauce becomes a thick syrup and remove from heat.
- Place the tuna steaks back in the pan to glaze with the sauce.
- For the ginger miso dressing, combine all ingredients in a mixing bowl and whisk to combine. Use the dressing to dress the mixed greens.
- Slice the tuna steaks at an angle into 1/8″ thick slices and serve atop the mixed green salad. Drizzle over additional tataki glaze as desired and garnish using daikon sprouts and sesame seeds.
